Are you interested in enrolling your child at Footscray West Primary School?

Choosing the right school for your child is important. Matching your child’s needs to what a school has to offer can make a significant difference, so any time spent on making the right choice is worthwhile.

You might consider some of the following:

The emphasis the school places on academic achievement.
The importance the school places on a child’s social and emotional development.
If they offer specialist programs and extra-curricula opportunities.
The school’s expectations on student behaviour.
If the school seems like a happy place and if this is important for you.
It is also important you feel confident with your choice of school and support the direction the school is taking. Seven years is a significant amount of time to spend in any environment and you need to feel it is the right place for you.

Our school zone

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria.

Our school has an enrolment restriction under section 2.2.16 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic).

Our school will prioritise enrolments from:

students who live within the school zone
students with a sibling attending the school at the same time
students seeking enrolment on compassionate grounds, in exceptional circumstances.

Depending on available places remaining, our school may be able to accept a limited number of out-of-zone enrolments according to next closest to the school.

The department will review this enrolment restriction yearly and provide updated advice as necessary.

2027 Foundation (Prep) enrolments

All Victorian government primary schools follow the statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline. The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child at a Victorian government primary school.

You can apply to enrol your child in Foundation (Prep) in 2027 from Monday 20 April 2026.

What you need to do:

Book a school tour and information session, to learn more about our school and the enrolment application process.
Collect a FWPS Foundation (Prep) enrolment information pack from the school tour, or download from here (available by Monday 20 April 2026). Please read Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) for further guidance on the application process.
Submit the enrolment application by Friday 31 July 2026.
You will be notified of the outcome of your application between Monday 3 August and Friday 14 August 2026.
If you receive an enrolment offer, you should accept the offer by Friday 28 August 2026.
Take part in school transition sessions during Term 4, 2026.
Prepare your child to start Foundation (Prep) from Thursday 28 January 2027.

Enrolment applications submitted after 31 July 2026 will be processed by our school as they are received, in accordance with the department’s Enrolment Policy.

Other year level enrolments

We also accept enrolment applications for students in other year levels. You can submit a request at any time in the school year.

Eligible students who live within our school zone are guaranteed a place, while students outside the zone may be enrolled if there are available places.

My child has additional needs

At Footscray West Primary School we work closely with families to cater for a range of additional learning needs, to ensure that students are provided with a rich and successful education. We employ educational support staff to assist funded children with additional needs.

Please make sure you raise any matters likely to impact on your child’s learning and wellbeing when you meet with our principal or transition coordinator. This will assist us in placing your child in the most appropriate grade, and allow us to effectively cater for your child’s needs.
