School & Community

Family involvement at Footscray West is highly valued and warmly encouraged.

There are many things you can do in the classroom; from reading with students or helping with excursions and special activities, to preparing resources or covering books. If you are interested ask your child’s teacher how you can help.

There are also many ways to be involved across the whole school, including joining the School Council or one of its sub-committees, socialising and fundraising with Parents & Friends, or gardening and supporting other environmental and social activities with the Connector Bugs.

Family members are also invited to assist at special events like school discos, working bees, and by accompanying camps and excursions.  Check the Calendar and keep an eye on the weekly Newsletter for details.

If you are helping at the school we ask that you complete the school’s Classroom Helpers program.

A Working with Children’s Check is required for participation in many activities and we encourage all volunteers to obtain one of these, and to have details registered at the office.

Familiarising yourself with the schools Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Volunteer Induction Handbook is also a requirement and you will be asked to check a box in relation to this when signing in at the office.

Footscray West Primary values interactions between the school and the broader community.  The school has links with local education, sporting, community and cultural groups.  Students are encouraged to represent the school at a range of annual and biennial academic, sport, and arts events and activities; as well as by regularly participating in national and state initiatives.
