SPORT
Footscray West's specialist Physical Education program lets children experience the fun of fitness, health, teamwork, setting goals, and achieving their personal best.
The large grounds and purpose-built gym provide great spaces for a wide range of sports and physical activities.
The Physical Education program is designed to build on the skills of each grade level:
- PREP: Introduces and develops Fundamental Motor Skills through involvement in a range of activities including catching, bouncing, kicking, and gymnastics
- GRADES 1 & 2: Builds on the Fundamental Motor skills acquired from Prep through exercises such as soccer and punt kicks, forehand strike games, and underarm throw.
- GRADES 3& 4: Progressively develops motor skills as students participate in athletics, t-ball, and golf.
- GRADES 5 & 6: Advanced development of junior and middle years skills through sports including fitness/endurance, cross country, footy, and field games.
Footscray West students are encouraged to represent the school in competitive inter-school sports, such as:
- Inter-school Swimming Carnival
- District Cross Country
- Autumn/Winter Inter-school Sports – football, soccer, netball, newcombe
- Spring/Summer Inter-school Sports – cricket, basketball, t-ball, bat tennis
- Inter-school Athletics

The Twilight Sports, a fun-filled community sports evening and family picnic, is a popular annual tradition that all families are welcome to attend.
The fun and games of the famous Footscray West Cup is held to celebrate the slightly more famous Melbourne Cup every year.
Footscray West is also proud of its association with the AFL and the Western Bulldogs, who have provided our girls and boys with some fantastic opportunities to get involved with the game and with the club's community activities.
