GETTING READY

underline

You can encourage school readiness by helping your child develop independent skills and a positive outlook before beginning Prep.

Teach your child to:

  • Use the toilet independently
  • Wash hands and face
  • Take responsibility for personal items
  • Open and unwrap the contents of a lunch box
  • Pack up and put toys, books, and clothes away
  • Recognise their name and belongings

Help your child prepare for Prep

  • Speak positively about school
  • Talk about the wonderful things your child will do at school
  • Take walks to the school
  • Help your child understand road rules and safety
  • Become familiar with school and its expectations.
  • Chat with other parents about what is expected at school
  • Visit the school and participate in transition activities

  • Readiness for school sessions. Speak with staff about strategies to assist your child with the transition to school life.
